Some research suggests that one of the reasons that he plotted the course he did is because he had old maps that suggested that there was a large country to the north (what would be Canada). Equally other people have pointed out how quickly Canada was “discovered” once Columbus came back. Or how there were some coastal dwelling native Americans in “Canada” that had blue eyes.

Holy shit, I suddenly realized something else – not only did Columbus not discover America (or India), even the claim that he discovered another water passage to India – as he actually aimed for this -, is probably also untrue, if Thor Heyerdhals experiments on the balsa floats are in any way conclusive. (I am working through old articles on WP, bear with me).
