To the university that’s banned this blog

by Jennifer Kesler on August 25, 2010

I just found out a university has blocked this site from its students. They’re fine with Hathor, apparently – that one’s still available, but not this one. I have one response:

Fuck you, pathetic assholes.

I can’t even find a trigger word that would set off the most ham-fisted filter (that’s not on Hathor, anyway). I guess someone’s feeling awfully threatened by me. Really, there is no higher compliment than censorship. Proves you’re doing your job.

That would be mine. And it’s Curtin University in Western Australia, if anyone feels like taking it up. I’m going to ask admin exactly why they banned it, though I doubt I will get an acceptable answer. Because JK’s right; my initial theory was that there was a trigger word like ‘terrorism’ that set the dragnet off, but there’s nothing beyond they feel threatened. Which is kind of a compliment. Nothing says ‘shit, they’re on to us’ like bannin.

Hmm. I wonder if it’s for the class commentary? There’s not too much separate from Hathor…

Wait, what? Curtin banning this site?
Bleh, You should be able to email someone to get it sorted out. I “think” it might have been something that happened automatically, but even so.
Uhhm..If emailing Curtin IT department doesn’t work and students inside still want access, possibly send an email to Helen Merrick @ Curtin.
Tho I can offer no further guarantee other than having been an ex student and listened to her on quite a few panels and talks that she might be sympathetic and have a further clue than I would about who to talk to.
