I just stumbled on your page and read several of your articles, and I agree with your viewpoints almost 100%. I'm currently a college dropout attempting to save enough money so I can continue finishing my physics degree so that I can get a job in god knows what. I really respect that there are people out there who understand that initial opportunity and societal factors weigh heavily in determining where you end up in our unequal society. Both my parents are sociologists, so they've furthered those views in my mind, especially in a society that largely believes in individual effort and "genetic" predetermination as factors that make you successful. Furthermore, I really enjoyed your article on the tragic state of education and how college degrees are becoming ever so valueless these days. I understand, because after my father lost his job, my family relocated to the small town of Lake Charles, Louisiana. My father has a doctorate and my mother has a masters degree, and yet my family probably has the lowest standard of living compared to many of my friends here, who have parents with bachelors degrees and simply all work for local oil/chemical plants. I hope to finish my degree and eventually attain the security and economic independence that you're striving for. Unfortunately, coming from a barely middle class family and becoming somewhat secure and owning property seems like a far-fetched dream these days.
